Justice (retd) Basu Deo Agarwal
Born on 17.06.1952 at Village-Chaparmukh, District-Nagaon, Assam. Did graduation (B.Com) from Gauhati University and also obtained LL.B Degree from the same University in the Year 1977.
Joined legal profession in the Gauhati High Court in the month of September, 1977. Basically practiced in the High Court in various branches of law. In the year 1991 selected as Grade-I Judicial Officer in Assam. Appointed as Principal District Judge in March, 1992.
Elevated to Gauhati High Court in the month of October, 2006 as Additional Judge and made permanent Judge in the High Court on 15.7.2008. Retired on super-annuation on 16.6.2014.
During 29 years of judicial career as a lawyer and District Judge had the occasion to attend various training courses, which included 6 (six) weeks Training at University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom on the subject ‘Gender & Law’.
Have also written nearly two dozen articles on Criminal Justice System and on other subjects, which have been published in various journals.
Post retirement appointed as Chairperson of Advisory Board of National Security Act, 1980 by the Government of Manipur. Also headed 3 (three) numbers of Judicial Inquiries in the state of Assam, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
Appointed as the President of Nagaland State Consumer Redressal Commission in the month of March, 2015 by the Government of Nagaland. Have also successfully decided good number of Arbitration cases.
Assumed the charge of the Office of Judicial Member, Manipur Lokayukta on 19.06.2019. Resigned w.e.f 11.03.2020.
